Utley isn't expected to return until the September stretch drive, or longer than the Phillies had hoped. "Yeah, this hurts," Philadelphia manager Charlie Manuel said Thursday. The operation was performed Thursday in New York, three days after one of the majors' best all-around infielders was injured trying to stretch a single into a double. He was put on the disabled list Tuesday with a sprained ligament, and doctors later determined part of the ligament was detached from a bone. "They reattached that -- I would call that severe," Phillies athletic trainer Scott Sheridan said. The 31-year-old Utley must wear a...

It's a week in Florida for the Padres here. After taking 2 of 3 against the Rays...they go outside to face the Marlins. They really proved themselves by facing a high profile AL team and beating them. Richard has been very good. The Sox probably would like him back right now. Richard is coming off his worst outing of the season by giving up 5 runs (4 earned) and any other time he's come off a non-quality start...he's pitched very well. In the 4 other starts following a non-quality start...he has a 1.43 ERA and the Padres are 4-0. So...

Won with the cards last night ,so i am 2-0 to start the week. Just to let you know ,baseball season i only make a bet a day. OK...... Bannister is not enjoying interleague play. In his last 2 starts (@ Cincy and @ Atlanta), he's gone a total of 7 innings and gave up 14 earned runs on 17 hits. Well...that's a problem. And he was on a 5 game winning streak leading into those starts. It's fair to say his worst starts have come on the road this season. You have those 2 games as well as a 3...

The settlement announced Thursday by a lawyer for the parents of David Woodman came on the same day the Celtics were scheduled to play the Los Angeles Lakers in the deciding Game 7 of the 2010 NBA Finals. The 22-year-old Woodman died 11 days after police took him into custody on a public drinking charge on June 18, 2008. Woodman's parents blamed their son's death on...

An Orlando TV station report that Memphis and Central Florida could both receive Big East invitations "as soon as next week" has been refuted by the league, associate commissioner John Paquette told CBSSports.com on Thursday.
"We are officially denying the Orlando station's report," Paquette said.
The station described the invitations as "highly likely" to happen.
The station's sources were characterized as "multiple college football sources."
Meantime, the Orlando Sentinel described the Orlando station's report as "premature" but added that Big East officials will privately discuss expansion during a Thursday teleconference. This all comes five days after CBSSports.com reported that Memphis could receive an invitation...
